Express Yourself

Children all over the world don’t have the same rights. One of the rights is to make friends and play. We need to help those people. We need to stick up for them. Some children die before they are five years old. Every 30 seconds, one child dies of malaria. It is very sad. We have been learning about the children of Kroo Bay. Kroo Bay is a slum community in Africa. In Kroo Bay they don’t have the same medical care as us. Of every five babies, one dies before it is five years old. Some die of malaria because they don’t have enough medicine. People of Kroo Bay have unhealthy shelters. When it floods, their houses flood too so they have to move. They even have holes in the roof. Save the Children helps children in countries all over the world. I would like to buy footballs, netballs and a pump from the Save the Children wish list. It costs $58. I want to buy it so that children can relax and play. Also they can make friends. Please tell your friends to buy something on the wish list because poor children need it.

Making Model Fossils

Fossils are dead precious and they go back a long way. Everybody loves fossils so in Room 5 we made some. I will show you how.
You need:
Clay,
A small plastic container,
Shells,
Plaster of Paris,
Gold spray paint,
Thin metal wire,
Some black paint,
An old cloth.
How to make one.
First you press the clay into the small container. Flatten it in the container until it’s about 1½ cm thick. You need to make the surface flat.
Next you press your shells into the clay to make a pattern. Pull the shell out when you have finished.
After that you have to make a loop. It should
Look like this. The loop will hang your fossil.
Then ask an adult to mix the plaster of Paris.
Now you can wait for it to dry and paint it gold.
Then lightly paint it black and wipe it with an old cloth.
There you go – a fossil.
